Textile filter media are sensitive to abrasion and must therefore be cleaned as gently as possible.

Improper mechanical treatment, including incorrect washing will damage and roughen the surface. If you wash a filter in a rotary washing machine, the filter media must be sufficiently protected from friction with the cylinder walls. To protect them properly, place filters in very large bags made of an open-structured fabric. Always follow the steps listed below:

Water-soluble dirt that can be removed easily:
soak the filter media in cold water
stir and rinse the filter media
increasing the water temperature to a maximum of 50°C and lengthy soaking will give better cleaning results
use gentle commercial washing powder to accelerate the cleaning process

Acid or alkaline dirt:

remove acid dirt in an alkaline bath and alkaline dirt in an acid bath
use a washing liquid with 1-2ml/l ammonia for the alkaline bath
use a washing liquid with 1-2 ml/l ethanoic acid for the acid bath

use a maximum temperature of 50°C for washing. The washed filter media can either be air-dried or dried in industrial dryers. In the latter case, the drying temperature must remain well below the thermal resistance of the filter medium in question
